So you’ve decided that you want to create an Instagram account for your business, now what?
- Do you know which days of the week you will post to Instagram?
- Will you hire a photographer to follow you around in your business?
- Do you post your images as is, or do you add a special filter to make them pop?
Starting a social media account on any platform can be overwhelming. Especially when you have to add it to your list of things that you already manage on a day-to-day basis in your business.
But if you’ve asked yourself the right questions and have indeed come to the conclusion that an Instagram Business Account is right for you, then you should develop a strategy to manage it going forward.
Like everything else in your business, you should approach your business Instagram account as an extension of your business that needs a system and a strategy.
How to develop an Instagram strategy for your business
1. Identify the purpose of creating an Instagram account
- Is it to showcase your products or services?
- Is it to showcase you and make you more personable to your customers?
- Or Is it a combination of the two or something else?
Whatever your reason for creating an Instagram account, keep in mind your purpose when selecting which images will or won’t be shared on your account.
2. Decide who will manage your Instagram account
- Will you be the one posting pics to your account?
- Will you hire an employee to manage your social media?
- Can you outsource this task to a VA or SMM?
It’s important to decide who will have the ability to post on behalf of your business and that that person understands the overall purpose of the account in the first place.
3. Research the hashtags for your industry
Want more eyes on your posts? Or more importantly, want the eyes of your customers (current and future) on your posts?
Lookup which hashtags work for your business/industry and not just cute one-off hashtags that make you feel creative, but gets you little visibility on the platform.
Hashtags can help to promote your business and get the right eyes on your content when used correctly.
4. Setup your social media calendar for Instagram
Decide how you want to manage your social media accounts and when. This can be done monthly, quarterly, or annually.
Based on your business, there may be specific calendar months that may have more posting than others because that’s just in the nature of your type of business. For example, if your products or services cater to parents, May and June, may be very active months for you due to Mother’s and Father’s Day, respectively.
