I started writing this the day after Mother’s Day and I found myself wondering………….. is Mother’s Day on a Sunday, so that mother’s can get right back to doing all the things that makes them amazing moms the next day.
Mothers get one day off if they’re lucky. Then Monday comes around and mothers are collectively back on their grind; working, cooking, cleaning, checking homework, studying for their night course that they are taking for a better life. Is that by design? And if so, then why is the advice to moms who are looking for a job to ‘hide’ the fact that they are a mom.
Granted, it’s an illegal question for an interviewer to ask a woman directly if she has kids, but why all the stigma around the topic? If an employer discriminates against someone for being a mom (which would be hard to prove in a court of law), it should be their loss.
And if they don’t know that it’s their loss, they are either in denial or blind or out of touch with what moms in this day and age have to offer.
Hire more moms because…….
- We are hustlers.
- We are multitaskers.
- We are resilient.
- We are proven to increase revenue.
Happy Mom = Profitable Business
The last statement alone should be reason enough for businesses to want to hire moms. Think Shonda Rhimes or Sheryl Sandberg or even Beyonce.
Do you think any project that has these women’s names attached would lose a dime if these mommas said they needed to take a day or two off to care for a sick kid? I think not.
And do you want to know why? Because they kick ass at their jobs.
They show up and show out. And I also love the fact that they are change leaders in their own organizations. For example, don’t send Shonda Rhimes an email after 7PM or on the weekends because she won’t read them. And she encourages her staff to do the same.
Then, there’s Sheryl Sandberg who leaves her office at 5:50PM so that she can be at home with her family. A model that she hopes her fellow female associates can follow without penalty.
And then there’s the Queen Bey, who skipped Coachella in 2017 due to her pregnancy, and outdid her performance in 2018. Then, generated even more revenue from that same performance in 2019 as part of a documentary.
Tell me those aren’t #MomSkills.
Hire a mom today!!
I don’t know what more evidence the world needs to show that we moms rock and any company would benefit from hiring us whether as an employee, freelancer, or B2B. If you are looking for someone for a job, product, or service, consider hiring a mom. It’s just good business!!
